Break and Shake Magic Mushroom Rice Bags for Optimal Cultivation

Around 7-14 days after inoculating rice bags, it is recommended to break and shake the mycelium to help distribute it in the rice and speed up the growing process. However, it is important to be cautious while doing so to avoid any rice from touching the first aid tape on the top corner of the bag as it can cause molding. To prevent this, you can either:

  • use a large chip clip over the corner
  • fold the bag over on the corner and clip it with a smaller clip, or tape it down
  • Or any number of ways. Just protect the tape from the rice.

Once the corner is secured, gently press on the firm sections of the rice to break it into chunks. After breaking up the mycelium, redistribute it throughout the rice bag by rotating and shaking it, ensuring that no rice comes into contact with the taped corner. Illuminate the bag with a bright light to confirm that all rice grains have settled at the bottom before compacting them using the twist technique.

It’s essential to note that mycelium may bruise during the break and shake process, resulting in a temporary brown or yellow discoloration. While this is a normal occurrence, it’s crucial to remain vigilant for any signs of contamination. If you observe any green discoloration, it indicates the presence of mold or other contaminants, making it necessary to immediately dispose of the bag to prevent further spread.
