When I found myself not wanting to try yet another medication the doctors wanted to put me on after having bad side effects from the last medicine, I decided to research other options. As I found out, researching and exploring alternative treatment options can be a valuable step in finding a solution that works best for you. There are many alternative approaches to managing health conditions, such as lifestyle changes, natural remedies, complementary therapies, and different forms of therapy. The two therapies that stuck out to me were ketamine and micro-dosing psilocybin.
Due to my cyclical vomiting, I was worried about both treatments making me nauseous and triggering an episode. In the end, the deciding factors were cost, convenience, and having control. The day after making my decision, I just happened to see a post on NextDoor about magic mushrooms. The woman lived down the road from me and was so helpful and knowledgeable about the different strains. She had never micro-dosed but had been healing her trauma through self-guided trips.
I was given 4 grams of Hillbilly which is a mild strain for beginners and the perfect amount for a full trip. From those 4 grams, I was able to make enough powder to last me one month of micro-dosing using the 4/3 protocol. In addition to micro-dosing, I started talk Therapy and found a highly-rated acupuncturist which I have been hesitant to see due to my phobia of needles.
While I feel micro-dosing psilocybin was the right option for me, it may not always be the right option for everyone. It’s important to discuss options with your healthcare provider to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your specific situation.
