An unexpected benefit of micro-dosing was it helped my intense fear of heights, also known as acrophobia, which has had a significant impact on my life. It has overshadowed even the simplest of joys and threatened to limit my interactions with my children. As an active mother, I love playing with my kids, but my fear of heights has often made it difficult for me to do so. I cannot recall when this fear started, but as an adult, it had become worse, with moments of near blackouts.
We have a fantastic outdoor park that features a three-story metal slide with breathtaking views from the top. Before I started micro-dosing, I used to accompany my kids to the top of the slide, but I often found myself freezing in fear involuntarily. My daughter would hold my hand and encourage me to go down the slide, reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.
Two weeks after starting to micro-dose, I took my kids to the same playground. When I climbed to the top of the three-story slide, I was amazed by the view. The park was crowded, and the slide was swaying back and forth due to the volume of people using it. This would have scared me before, but I felt calm and peaceful this time. My daughter noticed that I had stopped and thought I had frozen in fear. But I was just taking a moment to enjoy my surroundings. She spoke to me in a soothing voice, and to her surprise, I smiled and continued down the slide with her for the first time when she said, “Mom”.
I never thought that micro-dosing would help me with my intense fear of heights. Although I have experienced some other benefits that I was hoping for, this one was not on the list that I had hoped to address. I hope my story encourages others grappling with similar fears to explore alternative paths to healing and remain open to the possibility of transformation.
